Elfed Thomas, ex-headmaster of Pontrobert school, once wrote that Pontrobert was very much like heaven - you don't see the place until you arrive.  This book is a testimony to all those who have lived and worked in this small community set in the folds of the beautiful Vyrnwy Valley.  Drawing on family photographs, individual recollections and other historical sources, it portrays life in the 19th and early 20th century, a life rich in community activity, family bonds, enterprise and its traditions of language and music, but which was also challenged by the impact of war and the everyday hardships of farming life.  The hills, the sky and the river shaped the lives of everyone then, as they do now, in this little glimpse of heaven.
